Steps to reproduce

  1. Add a paragraph block to a post or page.
  2. Add some text to it.
  3. Select a word and use the shortcut Cmd + U (on Mac) or Ctrl + U (on Windows).
  4. Notice underline won't be added to the text.

What I expected

Underline formatting to be added to the text.

What happened instead

The text remains with regular formatting.

Other

I know underline was removed since WordPress.com 4.7 like justify alignment and it was not included on Gutenberg for usability reasons. However, since we have a similar enhancement request for justify I'm opening this one for tracking similar request.

I can confirm that Cmd + U is not working, but it's not working on a core (WordPress.org) site either. This is a bug and seems to be discussed here WordPress/gutenberg#13034 (comment) which leads to WordPress/gutenberg#14031

I think we can close this issue on Calypso for core to fix it, but if I am leaving this open, for @Automattic/lannister to take a call.

Since the same issue is present in core and already tracked in Gutenberg repository, we can close this one out. Thanks for the ping @arunsathiya!

Hi! Did we have a regression, or a decision against cmd U to underline? I just noticed this isn't working (a user was asking how to underline here)

Noting too, this isn't working on .org either as far as I can tell; I commented on this issue but can't re-open it:

Note that it is also mentioned in our public facing doc as below:

Underline the selected text. – ⌘U

Command+U in Chrome on current mac still does not work. On Firefox, it opens a new tab with View Source.

This is fixed in core but I can still replicate it in dotcom (atomic & simple). Pressing CMD + U does nothing.

Thanks for the issue! I'll close this as duplicate with #71631. I kept the newer one open, because some comments here also refer to GB when it had issue too.
