OS: Xubuntu 24.04.1
Geeqie: Geeqie 2.5+git20250103-f41bec46 GTK3

Describe the bug
In my ongoing quest to get geeqie working successfully, I switched from using the --new-window flag to launching independent processes for every geeqie instance as follows:

GQ_NEW_INSTANCE=y /usr/lbin/geeqie --geometry=1852x2039+989+41 >/dev/null 2>&1 &

What I've found is that this works OK until you attempt to revisit a directory previously visited (sometimes!) or start a second instance of geeqie in the same directory. In the se3cond and subsequent cases, the thumbnail icons refuse to display.

I loaded three images in my Downloads directory: dsc01.jpg, dsc02.jpg, dsc03.jpg

I then stated geeqie as noted above. See image #1.

I then launched a second instance of geeqie in the same directory. See image #2.

The thumbnails refuse to display until some change in the directory occurs; either touching the existing image files or adding a new image to the directory. See image #3.

If I exit all running geeqie and then start a new instance in the Downloads directory, often no thumbnails will initially display. You can select different thumbnails to display the corresponding image, but the thumbnails do not update until something happens externally in the directory.

P.S. A Refresh (R) in the thumbnail panel will update the icons.
