decided to uninstall using the official instructions and reinstall with this installer again; seems to work atm.

(the one oddity is that on reinstall nix profile history still shows my 31 old history versions from a prior install, but doesn't show any of the content of those versions, e.g. Version 31 (2024-11-04) <- 30: No changes.. Not sure why the versions and dates survived, but none of their content did.)
