What is comparator, components().comparator

I have seen a project, grapesjs bootstrap4 plugins. The author wrote in the model of a dom component type this.components().comparator = 'something',
If this is set the components of this type will be ordered according to the attribute something in components definition.... So any one explain to me wht this is and is it built in feature i searched on grapesjs documentation but ddnt find anything
