QWERTY layout keyboard display problem on Tablet #385
Comments
I want to second this. Even if this is the way the devs prefer to have the keyboard, it would be really nice to have the option to change to a more mobile layout like on the phone style keyboard. I use a Z Fold 3 and very much enjoy the front screen keyboard, but just the "a" key being so smooshed up against the side in the tablet screen is putting strain on my thumb from being so alien from the way I'm used to typing. HeliBoard seems to be the only keyboard to do this so far. All of the other keyboards I've tried use a more mobile layout for tablet screens. |
You should modify this file, in order to make the keyboard look similar to before for tablets. app/src/main/res/values-sw600dp/functional-keys.xml The app on tablets is currently unusable. |
@gigisforza70 I couldn't quite manage to get further than increasing the width of the action key, but I instead removed the functional keys xml which reverted the tablet keyboard to a mobile phone state, which is exactly what I was picturing in the first place. Took me a bit longer, as I had to teach myself how to build APK packages, but I managed it in the end. Thank you so much. |
@SleepyScribe yes, by deleting that file you get the same layout as the phone, but it is not yet optimized for tablets, the ideal would be to go back to the tablet layout like in the photos where it says "OK". If you can edit that file to recreate the same layout as before that would be great. |
@gigisforza70 The problem is that it's not the functional keys where the issue lies, it's in the width of the middle row keys. You'd either need to decrease the width of the middle alphabetical keys, or you'd need to create a spacer on the left side of the a-key, neither things of which I know how to do. For now, deleting the right shift and putting the enter key down there is the best I can do with my knowledge. |
I'm closing this as part of #929 (clearly violating the no-huge-screenshots part). |
As you can see from the screens, the qwerty keyboard display has been modified for tablets and is very uncomfortable. This display problem is only present on tablets, on the phone the display is correct.
It almost looks like an AZERTY keyboard.
