The example speaks for itself. n_func_occ works fine for abs2 nested in a sqrt, but it doesn't work for sqrt(abs2(x)+y).
n_func_occ
sqrt(abs2(x)+y)
julia> @variables x y 2-element Vector{Num}: x y julia> Symbolics.n_func_occ(sqrt(abs2(x)+y), x) 0 julia> Symbolics.n_func_occ(sqrt(abs2(x)), x) 1
