We recently encountered many issues with Open MPI v3.1.x, see, e.g., open-mpi/ompi/issues/6322 and open-mpi/ompi/issues/6642. Given it's unreliability, updating to v4.0.x series may be the way out. I will try bumping the version in our Conda recipe to v4.0.2 when it's released so that both v3 and v4 exist in our channel, and users can upgrade/downgrade freely as they wish.

It might have been taken care of by https://github.com/nsls-ii-forge/openmpi-mpi-feedstock. Please check it out.

That's nice! Which channel will the new packages live? I'd like to test them first before closing.

conda install -c nsls2forge <pkg-name> should work.

Sorry @mrakitin, I've lost track of things recently. Starting tomorrow we'll have a full week Hackathon. I'll try to test it in my spare time.
