Just a note for anyone else having trouble migrating from the web app: if you can't scan the QR code as Google Messages no longer has a QR code scanner under Device Pairing — you need to sign out of all devices first, then select the option for QR pairing.

@Caspid , does it keep the QR code scanner option once you (1) remove all pairings, (2) sign in with qr? Or can you only use QR pairing once? Asking because if it is a manual sign-in for the 2nd device regardless, the unpair step might actually add extra work. Thanks for the information.
I just tested this, I had to unpair all other devices to make the "Switch to QR code pairing" option appear within my app on my phone. Otherwise it isn't visible.
