I have some issues with new versions of a library from time (just had it again at the weekend). Currently an update of the library is always affecting the complete environment (all projects). For the boards packages it is already possible to install multiple versions and select different versions for different projects.

It is needed for version control of the used libraries.
However adding this functionality is difficult and GUI disruptive.
So it was on the mental list op improvements, now it is in the issue list of improvements.
Don't hold your breath.
