words per segment (option missing) #302
Comments
If you're referring to the width at which subtitles are automatically broken into multiple lines, this is the left and right margin. They can be changed in the style editor. However, .srt files should automatically break into newlines to fit whatever video or screen they're being played on. So it's not yet clear to me what you want to adjust about your file. Do you want to set manual line breaks to fit a certain width? |
Thank you for the quick answer, I want to change the words per segment for this .srt file and after that generate a XML file to put into FCP for my vertical videos. |
found the style edit but changing the margins there doesn't change anything in my .srt file |
Because srt does not carry styles, only (unofficially) very limited markup tag. You'll need to convert to ass to correctly apply styles. |
maybe another program can do it.. I was hoping aegisub can do it all. |
Not "back to .srt", the added format would be lost again. I'm not aware of the subtitling workflow in FCP, but if it doesn't support ass or even srt directly I would suggest you first do the convert on the supported format, then do the editing directly in FCP. |
hmm okay, is there another way to limit the characters per segment on a .srt file then? |
It seems like what you want to do is to manually insert explicit line breaks into your srt file so that they will fit onto a 9:16 video. Anyway, to my knowledge there doesn't currently exist any script to make automatic line breaks explicit. There is a script to fit justified text into a rectangular clip (https://phoscity.github.io/Aegisub-Scripts/Fit%20Text%20in%20Clip/), but this also does some alignment that you may not want. |
In theory, you could

so I edit in FCP on an intel macbook. therefore I don't have the option to auto-cap. so i am using third party apps to create subtitles after exporting the video. the final resolution is vertical which is 2160 x 3840 pixels, but the original video is always horizontal 3840 x 2160 and from the original one I also get the first .srt file. this first .srt file has some mistakes in it so I edit them in the horizontal video first. the link you sent unfortunately does not fit the workflow I am looking at.. capcut has this easy function when you press enter in the textfield of the segment it automatically makes a new segment. its dividing it. but this little feature is also missing in FCP |
Hello, I just tried to import a .srt file which I had originally for a 16:9 format.
However as people thesedays consume more 9:16 formats I want to change the complete subtitle file to make it fit for that vertical format.
there should be an automation option for this but I can't find it.
how do I change the "word per segment"?
