What problem does this address?

During a contributor day on Friday, I took notes of the following feedback about the core block reference at https://developer.wordpress.org/block-editor/reference-guides/core-blocks/

  • The block reference needs to include information about when it was last updated.
  • - It is missing information about variations (For example, the query title does not mention the archive title variation, which makes it easy to think that the archive title block is missing from the reference).
  • - It is missing information about transforms.
  • It is missing information about parent blocks ( OK I added this one to the list :) )

Ah one more: It is confusing that this is called core block reference, when it is lists blocks that are in Gutenberg but not core.

@adamziel should land this week #40655 that introduces a way to mark core blocks as experimental. It should help also to distinguish blocks that are included in WordPress core or only in the Gutenberg plugin. Although, it would be great to have a way to define since in the block.json to make it clear.
