Create 20 rules page #267
Comments
Idk about expanding them, but sure, 20 rules could be transferred into the manual. I don't see why not |
A better source seems to be this: https://supermemo.guru/wiki/20_rules_of_knowledge_formulation I saw this one before but rediscovered it today through Jarrett's translation: https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/269997143?utm_id=0#ref_2 (this is the one CN manual links to) |
I suggest rather than trying to duplicate the page, we create a section of the manual that talks about creating good cards, and which covers the key points we want to cover, such as "keep things as simple as possible". We should avoid referencing their page when writing our own version, but should still credit them for inspiration. |
This seems to me like a wheel that does not need to be reinvented. The Rules are the creative work of Dr. Woźniak, after all. Even if he doesn't necessarily strike me as the copyright-enforcer type, I'd say we still have an ethical obligation not to take it. The Rules are already posted on multiple sites that appear stable, so we're not in danger of losing access to them by not bringing them in-house. I don't think the Anki community has a superior ability to offer translations of them, and I don't think dark mode is hard to come by for anyone who is interested. If someone feels called to write an Anki-specific guide for creating good cards, I think that's a great idea, but it should be its own separate work. |
I've seen the 20 rules of effective learning being referenced multiple times in the manual. Can we adapt that article and possibly write a version here if this is deemed to be important enough information?
If the 20 rules is important, keeping it on-site means more people would read it. Then there's translations and just better experience (no ads here, we have dark mode).
Another thing is we can adapt the examples to Anki, e.g. "Graphic deletion" is IO in Anki. Then I noticed there were screenshots of SM which can be changed.
Possibly, this can also be expanded beyond what Woz is saying.
