Edgemicrogateway not working as sidecar proxy in GKE

I've followed the steps illustrated in the documentation for deploying edge microgateway as sidecar proxy in gke. The latest release 3.1.0 binary wasn't available so I had to make use of last available binary which I could find (3.0.2).

Documentation says edgemicro gateway when deployed as sidecar proxy automatically builds an API Proxy but that API proxy isn't reflected on my Apigee console ( i'm using the trial version of apigee edge). Meanwhile curl calls to my ingress are successful without any api-key.
