Reported by students to Laura Weaver
Not infrequent
When I grade journals, I often come across journals that are blank with the header "New Journal Entry." Sometimes it's clearly a time-out problem. The student will have "new journal," then you'll see a completed journal opened a little while later. However, other students have entered text, but when they click save and review, the text is gone.
I've been able to replicate the creation of a blank journal by opening a journal and walking away. A journal is created when Emma times out. It's happened on different browsers and platforms.
