This is the thread to nominate projects for the Education & Outreach category of FIL-RetroPGF-1. As a reminder, this category is intended to capture work to spread awareness and knowledge of how Filecoin works. Both technical and social contributions are welcome!

Nomination Considerations

Things to consider when nominating a project:

• Use your best effort to describe how this project has delivered impact to the Filecoin ecosystem in the previous six months (Oct 2023 - Mar 2024). Use the template provided in each category’s thread when nominating a project.
• Make sure to nominate projects in the relevant category. If you feel that a project spans multiple categories, please choose the one category that you feel it best aligns with. Do not nominate the same project across multiple categories!
• Note that the organizers of FIL-RetroPGF-1 may choose to reassign a project’s category from its nominated one, if they feel it better aligns elsewhere.
• Before nominating a project please check if this project has been nominated already, so we can avoid duplication.
  RetroPGF is an experiment that Filecoin plans to iterate on regularly. Community feedback is key to helping the process improve with each round. We welcome your notes, reflections, and feedback at any step. Please use this discussion to submit feedback!

1. Project Name: VenusHub
2. Contributions over past 6 month:

• 3+ new SPs went from 0 to 1 technically through SP incubator program, including but not limited to knowledge regarding HW setups, filecoin protocol principles, tokenomics basics, IDC spec / location, Linux basics, calib net testing, Venus SP stacks and etc.
• Helped SPs to take advantage of new supranational proof to optimize their sealing pipeline, increasing both efficiency and overall throughput.
• Continuous tech support by both Venus Masters and the team through Slack with threads sometimes went over 60+ replies, demonstrating the conviction and dedication of the team.
• Reminders to community about network upgrade timelines, walk SPs through calibration net upgrade testing and shepherd them through upgrades to secure the network.
• Participation in various Web3 meetups (including Orbit China events in Jan 2024) to spread storage providing knowledge.

Contributions: I recommend Blocktrend for participation in FIL RetroPGF under the Education & Outreach category. Since 2017, Blocktrend has been actively producing educational content on Web3, including topics on Filecoin and IPFS. They have written numerous articles introducing the applications of IPFS and Filecoin and invite industry leader to discuss IPFS in podcast episodes. Furthermore, they have stored these articles on IPFS via Matters.town and issued Writing NFTs through LikerLand, which are also stored on IPFS. Blocktrend is one of the most proactive and in-depth independent media outlets in the Chinese-speaking realm, thoroughly introducing Filecoin. Web3 NFT IP Collaborations with Global Entities:
OpenGate has initiated Web3 NFT IP collaborations with several renowned entities globally

OpenGate has developed the first DID secondary market in filecoin ecosystem. With a trading volume of 100k $FIL, the DID secondary market link is here.

OpenGate has significantly enhanced the visibility of FVM, contributing to the addition of over 5000 holding addresses within the FVM ecosystem. Future initiatives aim to attract even more traffic to FVM.

• ETHGlobal has been one of the principal forums for developer education and experimentation on the FVM + Filecoin over the last 6 months.

• While most ETHGlobal events do not occur in this period (notably exludes large Filecoin activations like HackFS), there have been a handful of outcomes:

  • Approximately 370 projects have been built on Filecoin/FVM at ETHGlobal hackathons by ~1,000 unique developers
  • 6+ hours of Filecoin/FVM educational content from Workshops, to Fireside chats with Juan Benet, to Panels with Filecoin ecosystem founders
  • 600+ completions of Filecoin specific educational guides.

• As founder of Lighthouse I've personally seen many ETHGlobal hackathon projects onboard to Filecoin community in the last 6 months.

Description over the past six months (Oct 2023 - Mar 2024):

Web3bridge is one of Africa's premier Blockchain Development training centres committed to training Web2 developers within and outside Africa to become blockchain developers, at little or no cost.
Over the past 6 months, they've been able to run about 2 cohorts of learning (IX & X), of which the second cohort (X) is currently in session. Core concepts of Smart Contract Engineering including exploration of the Filecoin ecosystem/Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) are in the learning curriculum and has been taught to students of these cohorts totalling about 75 persons within the past 6 months.
