Registry home page is a missed opportunity for communication

Inspired by #583

The public registry have been around for years. I wrote what was intended as a placeholder for the homepage. But it has never been replaced and updated. That is a shame. I find that it deserves a better introduction and landing page.

We have training videos and presentations on usage. It seems a missed opportunity for communication to leave it as is. It is just an idea and I know everyone is busy. But at least now it is a documented idea.
