It happened to me many times already, that I have made a screen recording without the sound even though the sound was supposed to be recorded. At least, I thought everything was set up in such a way. I checked the checkbox to record the Sound from speakers and since I heard the desired sound from my speakers, I naturally expected the sound is being recorded. However, it was not. The reason is that I have multiple sound sources available but apparently, one first has to go into File > Preferences > General to pick the correct speakers and microphone.
The issues in my opinion:
The sound sources are not picked automatically based on what is currently being used in the system.
There is no sound indicator that would let you know something is off when the audio channel has no signal.
Even if you want to choose the sound source manually, it does not show its full name so when multiple of them start with the same substring, you are not able to identify which is which.
Ideas how to make this better:
Pick the sound source automatically based on what is currently being used in the system.
Add some kind of a sound indicator (maybe into the icon of kazam) that would show the sound is really being recorded.
Or move the dropdowns from File > Preferences > General next to the Sound from speakers and Sound from microphone checkboxes which would make it obvious from the UX perspective that you need to choose the correct one.
Show the full names of the sound sources (at least in a tooltip).
