The WG5 Committee decided in Japan (2019) not to pursue macros at this time. Our energy is best spent at pursuing generics / templates. The main argument is that if generics are designed well, they will cover a large set of use cases, and if it turns out later that users would like to cover some of the use cases that generics cannot do, then we can discuss whether to add macros also.
