Thanks for your work on uwot: really love it (including the very clear vignettes explaining umap and tsne).

I was wondering if you came across this paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.00992, which tries to visualize for each of the original variables its dependency in the resulting tnse/lle mapping by plotting contourlines. May be an idea for uwot? (or a seperate package that does that?)

Hi @edwindj, thanks for the link. I had been thinking about approaches to do something similar to this for UMAP specifically and had some plans, but this looks like they've already worked through all the details. I'll have to take a closer look, but I do believe that either this, or something similar, will appear in the python umap-learn library. I'll leave it to @jlmelville to worry about UWOT -- he's been doing amazing work on it.

Hello @edwindj, thank you for the link to the paper, which I had not seen. Certainly it is something I will keep in mind, depending on how easy it is to implement with R. My main strategy is to wait for @lmcinnes to work out how to do things and then I copy what he did, so if it appears in umap-learn, that will be a good a start.
