Can we consider spatial4j usage in addition to the plain jts?
Mb it would make sense to switch just to the spatial4j abstraction?
At least one of the potential benefits is that we can rely on the spatial4j distance computation functions and to remove our logic from the codebase.

It may also fix the anti-meridian issue.
