Meaghan Lewis Human User Guide

The goal of a human user guide is to make working together and collaboration with colleagues easier, faster. The focus for this user guide is on the workplace. As such, many of the questions are geared towards information that would be pertinent to your colleagues.

About me

  • What are some honest, unfiltered things about you?

    • I care deeply about the people that I work with and want to help them and our team succeed.
    • I am a process-oriented and goal-oriented person.
    • I listen and observe before providing feedback and taking action.
    • I always try to be straightforward and appreciate when people are straightforward with me.
  • Tell us about your pet peeves. These are things that put you in a bad mood.

    • When people don't follow through on commitments.
    • When people are disingenuis. I value transparency and sincerity.
    • When people are condescending to others or overly arrogant.
    • When I am asked the same question repeatedly.
  • What are your quirks?

    • I'm introverted.
    • I'm a lefty.
    • I like to have all the information before making decisions.
    • It's important for me to support the people around me and help them find their passion.
  • What are some things that people might misunderstand about you that you should clarify?

    • One thing I'm told is that I always have a calm demeanor and am hard to read. This means I don't visibly get overly excited or angry, even when I am overly excited or angry. I'll still provide blunt feedback and share my thoughts, but will stay level-headed and make logical decisions.

About my colleagues

  • What qualities do you particularly value in your colleagues?

    • I value those that are hardworking and are self-starters.
    • I value those that take initiative on their own personal growth. That includes being prepared for 1:1s and meetings, setting goals regularly, and checking in on those goals.
    • I value those who favor working on the highest impact work to get the best results, rather than folks who just want to look busy doing meaningless activity.
    • I value those that are honest and communicate openly. If you are having a hard time doing something, please let me know. I want to work with you to figure out how to overcome challenges.
    • I value shipping on time and regularly.
  • What do you wish colleagues didn’t do?

    • Over commit to things they don't feel comfortable they will be able to achieve.
    • Talk over others or not allow others the space to speak up.
    • Put other people down.
  • How can people earn an extra gold star with you?

    • Be empathetic.
    • Be decisive.
    • Be the best they can be.

About my interactions

  • How do you coach people to do their best work and develop their talents?

    • Coaching will happen in 1:1s. I expect my teammates to be self-motivated and autonomous. I expect them to set goals for themself and work with them to figure out how to best support them and help them grow.
    • If there are specific things you would like to work on, I expect you to bring those things up to me so I can do my best to work with you to find a solution.
  • What’s the best way to communicate with you?

    • Slack will be the easiest way to get in touch with me. I might not respond immediately, but I will definitely respond within a few hours. If you have a quick question, please just ask in Slack. If there is something that requires a conversation, I am happy to jump on a quick zoom call. Also, always feel free to schedule time on my calendar wherever there is availability.
  • What’s the best way to convince you to do something?

    • Tell me what the results will be.
    • Tell me the impact that it will have with our metrics.
    • Tell me how it will impact our users.
  • How do you like to give feedback?

    • As soon as possible and as subjectively as possible.
    • I like to provide praise in public, and criticize in private.
  • How do you like to get feedback?

    • Same as above.
    • I value all feedback and encourage a culture of continuous feedback so that it feels more comfortable for everyone to be giving and receiving feedback regularly.
