Need Visual Studio like team explorer, which is more useful in comparing the files from git and local repository. Code check-in and excluding files while code check-in are some great features which is missing in VS Code.

This month we're starting to look at adding an API that will allow extensions to create their own explorers (aka a tree view in a viewlet). You can check out the September iteration plan in #11917
