First of all I know the VS Code team has done visible efforts to make this terminal render real fast using canvas and many clever techniques.
This super fast and pretty colorized, terminal surrounded by the code editor feels a bit cluttered,
I have felt the need to pull it out on a separate window (and this is in a separate ticket).
Also, I think this terminal beats many of the efforts in performance other Electron terminal apps have tried and failed before. (Hyper.is).
In windows, I have found the misfortune to open Powershell ugly colors blue screen and 1995 options and bare customizations, because of it's power.
The terminal in this software is
unbeatable in user control and comfort,
you can copy paste normally since it's inception,
click links,
and well it handles the many terminal options (bash, ubuntu, powershell, cmd) available in windows in one friendly place,
it renders all under the same consistent color theme,
can change font size with obvious commands (very useful for demos),
etc.
Branching this into another app could also open the possibility to add new features from that fork to both environments, inside VSCode and as Terminal as a standalone.
Is anyone in this with me on this one, aren't CMD and Powershell slightly stuck in the past and contrived by UX concerns from two decades ago? and feel like a drag to have them separate?.
Wouldn't it be a fantastic addition to the Windows (mostly) or Mac development environment?
:)

I'm glad you're enjoying our efforts! A consistent well behaving terminal across all platforms is what I've been aiming for. Though I'm not actually super happy with the current Windows experience due to the many bugs that come through because of #45693, I'll be tackling this area soon though 😃
The idea of pulling the terminal out into its own window or even app has come up before (I think you're referencing #34442), keep the feedback coming!
