MacOS version screen capture freezing after a few hours #9056
Comments
Your log file is from OBS Studio 29.0.2. Please provide a log file from OBS Studio 29.1.2 (or newer) for a session where this issue occurs. If possible, please also update to the latest version of macOS (13.4, at the time of writing). |
Here is my log from OBS Studio 29.1.1 and macOS 13.3.1 if it can be useful. I will update and check again. |
Here is the fresh log from OBS Studio 29.1.2 and macOS 13.4. Recording settings are currently set to record in mp4, and OBS Log Analyzer flags this as a critical error. I will try to change the format back to mkv. |
Tested with OBS Studio 29.1.3, unfortunately screen and system audio recording stopped after about 5 minutes. Mic/Aux recording continued until the end. |
I've had this issue for nearly a year on my M1 Mini running the same OS. And I finally found a definite cause: "Low" memory. If I have <~30GB of free space on my internal drive OBS is guaranteed to freeze in a completely random amount of time. I noticed this a long time ago and chalked it up to pure correlation but it's consistent. For the last month straight my Mac has had plenty of space(70+GB) and you know how many times OBS froze? Zero. And I record overnight every single day. Makes me want to purposely lower my space and compare the logs. |
My mb pro 16 with intel i7 has this issue in the same moment when i start to record a video with the specific macos screen capture. I'm not able to record any video, only the first frame of the screen when we hit "start recording". the "obsolete" screen capture source instead work with no problem. I've no output for the command log stream --system | grep "replayd" |
I lost a stream and a recording today due to OBS running my M2 Air's memory out of town. It didn't even properly save the recording. I feel this happened at random and my logs don't even appear to explain what happened. |
I suspect this is related to, if not the same as, #8928 |
I still have the same issue with the latest version (30.0.2) of OBS and macOS Sonoma 14.3.1. Screen recording freezes after a while, unpredictably. The only strange thing I see from the log is (in bold): 08:41:12.024: ==== Recording Start =============================================== (OBS was opened at 08:18:17.729) |

This happens on OBS v28 as well. On multiple mac devices, including my MacBook Pro 16" (Intel), MacBook Pro 14" (M1 Max) and my iMac (Intel).
