Why is not possible to use .ddev.site project domain with ngrok?

When using ddev share command or the equivalent ngrok command, traffic is forwarded from the ngrok url to the project's 127.0.0.1:PORT http address. This works fine.

When using ngrok to forward traffic to .ddev.site url like the following:

/usr/local/bin/ngrok http https://project.ddev.site

it ends up with 404 Not Found response when hitting the generated (ot stable) ngrok url.

Why is not possible to use the .ddev.site domain when sharing with ngrok or am I missing something int the configuration?

Try using http://project.ddev.site and see if that works better.

• When you use project.ddev.site the request goes through the router, when you use the 127.0.0.1:PORT address, it goes directly to the web container.
• When you use https, you're using the TLS, encrypting the traffic. ngrok does not know or respect the special certificate that DDEV has created, so may not be able to use that at all. (Your browser trusts the certificate, because you've done a mkcert -install. )
