Hello @gledguri,

@retorquere is ready to assist you with Better BibTeX. In order to do so efficiently, a debug log is generally required. The information it containst is key to him understanding, replicating, and resolving your issue. If you have shared a D<number> log, those go to the Zotero team, @retorquere cannot access those.

Here’s how you can share your debug log:

  1. If your issue involves specific references, citekey generation, or exports, right-click on the relevant item(s) and select "Better BibTeX -> Submit Better BibTeX debug log" from the menu.
  2. For issues where items do not play a role, follow these steps:
  • Restart Zotero with debugging enabled (Help -> Debug Output Logging -> Restart with logging enabled).
  • Reproduce the problem.
  • Choose "Send Better BibTeX debug report..." from the help menu.

After these steps, you will receive debug ID displayed in red. Please share this ID with @retorquere in this issue thread. If your query is about an export, include both the actually exported result and your expected/desired outcome.

Sharing your debug log gives @retorquere a view of your Better BibTeX configuration and the elements contributing to the issue. This helps him address your concerns more efficiently.

Thank you.

PS: If the Debug Log menu is not available, or if it fails to send the debug log, you can use the option under “Help” > “Send debug log to file.io”.

Seriously, how do you come to the idea that the log is not applicable?

Please reproduce the problem and send a log. I much prefer a log over guessing what the problem is.

Thought this was a quick fix. However, here's the log number XHJG63WS-refs-euc/6.7.245-7

I see the problem now. I might not be able to fix it today, but tomorrow should be doable.

Same her with 7.0.8 (64-bit) Zotero and 6.7.245 BBT
I just installed this seemingly useful extension today and thought I was the problem ;-)
Thanks for your work in advance

OK, I have identified the problem, more logs or "me too" comments are not necessary until I have a fix to test.

🤖 this is your friendly neighborhood build bot announcing test build 6.7.246.7227 ("temp fix")

This update may name other issues, but the build just dropped here is for you; it just means problems already fixed in other issues have been folded into the work we are doing here. Install in Zotero by downloading test build 6.7.246.7227, opening the Zotero "Tools" menu, selecting "Add-ons", open the gear menu in the top right, and select "Install Add-on From File...".

Sadly, the issue is not resolved for me: I can edit the Citation Formula now in the Gui in the BBT Preferences, but when I click update Citation Key on any item of the library it just removes the Citation Key, or sets it to nothing ''.

It works for me on Ubuntu 22.04 and Zotero 7.0.3.
Thanks!

I got the same issue, a workaround for me was -- after editing the citation-key formular and updating all citation keys -- to just restarted Zotero...after that I could see all the updated keys.

This build is just a stopgap, I need to redo the preferences entirely it seems.

Yes, on Mac OS 14.6 and Zotero 7, I see the same preferences window as the one at the top of this conversation (with the strange orange bar), even after installing the temporary fix above.

At first, I encountered this problem too, so I tried manually deleting each letter one by one and retyping it (when using backspace, a warning message about the referenced formula appears in the orange bar). After that, it worked.

Same here, on Windows 11 and Zotero 7.
