thanks, this is an interesting idea. My understanding is that cold storage has the same performance characteristics as hot, just a lower SLA (and cost). I guess it's worth testing though.

Yes, there should be little to no performance difference between Hot and Cool.

However there should be a huge difference between Premium and Hot: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-premium-block-blob-storage-is-now-generally-available/
