There are some instructions here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AutomaticSecurityUpdates

The interesting bit is probably not just turning on / automating it via salt, but also adding some of the extra bits (like autoreboot). I think I'd rather auto-reboot and risk requiring user intervention (via exception slave lost) than leaving an unpatched server on a public IP.
