Advice on linking two Snipe databases?

As part of our evaluation of Snipe-IT, I am dealing with complex requirements for selective visibility of asset attributes, to the point where I am beginning to think that it would be easiest to set up a second instance, and use the API to link asset information. Has anyone here done something like that? So that primary key, asset name and a few other fields are available to both instances, but one instance has all information of one type, e.g. engineering configurations and safety records, and the other has multiple, knotted ownership, tax and such like information?
