We were hoping to be able to use this to manage the parts we have to send to facilities as well as the computers. However, not being able to create accessories and send them/checkout to a location kinda puts a damper on this. Use Case: Location A calls and is installing 6 printers and need USB cable(s). We don't really care who they are going to but we do need to be able to charge/assign/checkout/whatever to that location for tracking. Thanks for any consideration! |
I'd argue that this option should be available for consumables too, e.g. most of the time you won't care who a pack of paper went to, just that Stationary Hub 1 (or Printer A) is using 5 times more than Stationary Hub 2 (or Printer B), so checkout to Location (or Asset) would seem helpful for consumables too |
+1 need to checkout AC adapters accessories to locations. |
Yes please, as we checkout small accessories to meeting rooms as well! |
+1 It would be super awesome to check out mice and keyboards to the PCs they're plugged in to. |
+1 It's super useful to have this feature. We have 50+ scanners need to deploy at several locations and the only option now is create a location as an user. |
this will be very very helpful, cable allocation on location. waiting for updates.. 👍 |
👍 |
We also need the option to check-out accessories & consumables to locations and not only to users. We have a large number of shops and all assets, accessories & consumables used there need to be linked to the shop and not to a shop employee. |

We would really need this to link a wall-mount bracket or a desk stand to a monitor/screen. |
I see this marked ready for dev, I hope it makes it into v5! Most recent rounds on top of checking out 25+ chargers to rooms, I'd like to be able to check out universal projector mounts to locations as well. I don't want to check them out as a component to an asset (the projector) because 99/100 times, the projector goes but the mount stays. Being able to know which locations utilize which mounts would be spectacular. |
+1 again, Need to checkout HDMI splitters/switches to rooms. $10-12ea, not worth tracking as an asset. Counts as infrastructure-related as it gives function to projectors/etc and won't typically follow a user around. |
+1 here, for us we need to be able to checkout batteries to the assets that use them |
First, I must positively express gratitude for the great system that Snipe-IT is. I can appreciate the amount of effort that went into and continues to go into developing of such a system. We find the software perfect for use with managing serialized assets. I have read about several posts about users requests to have the ability to effectively manage multi quantity assets and there seems to be a few methods developed to manage this. However, I will say that I do not feel the current methods developed offer the capability that will most likely be needed by a lot users of this system. We too have a need to manage assets that are both serialized (uniquely identified, typically by a serial number), and assets that are non-serialized and generally managed through quantities. I think the system would be further enhanced and meet the needs of a lot of people if assets had the ability to be checked out and in bulk with the ability of specifying multiple quantities on a non serialized asset. The developers would be best to design the accommodations for this change but I will offer suggestions to further depict our requirements.
Please let me know if you need any further information on the request and I greatly appreciate this request being fulfilled or alternatives presented to satisfy this requirement. |
Is this feature is planned to be released one day? We just need yes or no. Thank you. |
I also hope so. |
We are hoping for the exact same features. |
+1 for this FR |
+1 we need this |
+1 for this feature. |
The more I use Snipe-IT the more I like it, but this is a glaring omission. The only thing that can be checked out to a location is an Asset? A good example is a network switch. Making them all assets is overkill, I mostly just need a quantity and to see where they are, but you can only give them to users not to locations. Another would be a power strip. I have 10 and I put one at some location and now I have 9. Handing them out to users is not the only or even the usual scenario. And even handing them to a user, it would be better to record the location that it is going to rather than the person you happened to give it to to install themselves. The person would be a comment, the location is the important part, unless you are really giving the item to them specifically, but for me that is a very rare case. Another more broad possibility is that the concepts of Accessory, Consumable, and Component should be merged. They seem to have a ton of overlap in concept and not much difference. You should also be able to add/purchase and remove/discard quantities as an operation rather than just manually changing the quantity number. (I think this is in some other request already.) |
This would be great for us too, We have our Desks created as Locations which we set the users primary location as, Then we assign the assets to the Desk location. If we could assign Accessories to the location instead that would be amazing and save us so much overhead in having to tack together a messy workaround. |
Bump, why isn't this a thing yet? |
Bump, any love for this feature request? |
Really need this feature to assist with managing network cables and other inventory items that don't need full asset tracking and just need a quantity |
Been looking into using snipe-it and I thought everything was great until I ran into this. Why can you only check out assets to locations and not accessories/consumables? It makes zero sense. I want to know where something is/went, not some arbitrary user it was checked out to. I don't get it. Just because it doesn't have a serial number, I don't want to know where it is? And because I chose to make my items accessories instead of assets I can't manually update their individual locations. So I can't check them out to a location or edit the location. It's a lose lose. I have to treat all my accessories as assets now. Anyway, I'll probably still use snipe-it since there is really no alternative. It's just going to be slightly painful. |
I have been using snipeit for a month now and would love to be able to check out accessories to a location. Please add this feature as quickly as possible |
My team needs this feature. It is currently taking multiple operations when a user has several monitors and for common use workstations or general areas cannot be tracked. |
It would be great to have this feature. |
This feature already exists. |
Well, qty for each. Checkout accessories to assets and locations is on develop, but the PR that was created isn't complete. |
Why are consumables not able to be checked out to assets? For example, printer toners/cartridges should be able to assigned to printers and one should be able to know how may toners a particular printer has consumed in an year, right? |
As we have said over and over, assets cannot be considered responsible for anything, as they are not sentient things. We already bowed to pressure to let folks check out things to non-people. We'll probably add that to consumables too, but it's not a high priority for us currently. |
In my opinion, in the context of IT Asset Management, the concept of responsibility typically revolves around how assets are managed, tracked, and utilized. While assets themselves are not sentient, the management systems must ensure accountability for their use and maintenance. I plan on shouldering the responsibility of checking out consumables to assets not locations. Wanted to understand your take. |
In general though, a machine consuming a thing is always because a person told it to do so. As I said, it's not off the table, just not high priority at the moment. |
On a scale of 1-10, how ready does "checkout accessory to asset" look? |
@ExpensiveAvocado820 the backend functionality already exists, and we have several PRs trying to tie the front end together. The original PR added the checkout functionality but dd not expose a way to see those checkouts on the target (asset, location) view panels, which was going to be very confusing for people. I'd put it at ~8. |

Expected Behavior (or desired behavior if a feature request)
Check In/Check out accessories (Ethernet Cables, power cords etc) to an asset/user/location in bulk. Example: Building a server rack requires more than one Ethernet cable and power cord and should be checked out to the server rack asset.
Actual Behavior
Currently, you can only check out accessories and consumables one at a time, and can only be checked out to a user. This is fine in the case of consumables but accessories should have the option of checking out to an asset at the very least. Must treat cabling and such as components in order to get that functionality.
