We should discuss what the unsubscribe functionality would do. We have to allow easy unsubscribe from commercial emails, but we should make sure we do not affect outgoing emails to an "unsubscribed" email address, ie: if I unsubscribed from emails from Appointment, but I book time on someone's calendar through their Appointment booking link, I should still get an email about this request. Mel recommends determining what marketing emails are, and gate the sending of those emails behind an unsubscribe flag. So in this case, I think we can have an "unsubscribe" link in the email that would open up a page which would have a confirmation button to unsubscribe, which would then add that flag. We should have a button to resubscribe if they clicked it by accident (something like "accidentally unsubscribed? click here to resubscribe!") ^@inattee would this work for you? |
Yes, that all sounds good and I like the idea of adding a way to resubscribe. Maybe also a "sign up to our emails" form on the website in case they change their mind at a later date? The Beta Invitation emails are in a bit of a grey area between promotional and operational, but I believe they lean more toward promotional. Recipients may not remember signing up or who we are and they aren't required to take any action. A standardized footer with an unsubscribe link reduces the likelihood of our emails getting marked as spam, which we want to avoid. Emails tied to booking an appointment, such as confirmation emails, are operational/transactional and don’t fall under unsubscribe rules, so those are fine even if someone was to unsubscribe from promotional emails. |
I'll implement this without the unsubscribe-feature for now. Is it ok to move that into another GitHub issue? |
Yep unsubscribe can be a new issue. Thank you! Please tag @inattee on it though 😄 |
We've gotten feedback that our beta invitation email looks scammy. I think we can do add the remind them that they signed up, including the sign-up date, and their login email to make things more legitimate.
Should be doable.
