how hard would it be to gather serial number and display in web interface?

Serial numbers are available in ENTITY-MIB. It does not seem very hard to gather them. However, associating them to the right element could be problematic. That's not something I can do in the near term.

Sorry, my Python and twisted skills are poor.
I did not expect associating serial numbers to the right element to be problematic. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction?
How do you do it with other bits of info? for example, how do you associate the description (or name) to the right element?

The main problem is to find the right OID with the serial number. It is present in ENTITY-MIB but is not as easy as this to get right. The OID for the description and the name is always the same.
