Ideally, I'd like to accomplish this completely without an external server. Two possibilities:

  1. Ideal: fetch data in the background occasionally, and fire a notification on cycled ended (see Apple's guide).
  2. Schedule a local notification when a machine is watched, based on the estimated time left in the cycle. This would give a rough idea of when things finish, but the estimates are incredibly unreliable (annoying extended cycle stuff), so isn't the best solution.
