Github Repository

A repository is useful for tracking project progress, documenting methods and decisions, development and distribution of code products, and communicating on day to day tasks. The SkagitLandslideHazards Github repository is a public website hosted by the Freshwater Initiative Organization within the Github software development platform.

Issues

Issues highlight ongoing work in progress and provide a forum for communicating about project decisions. This is a public conversation and easy documentation of how decision are made, providing a log that would not exist if conversations occurred via email threads. Issues may lead to development of detailed task lists and can be closed upon completion.

Projects

We use Kanban style feature to track broad categories of progress towards meeting contract deliverables.

Code

This is where the software development completed on this project is developed and shared with the team members developing code, and the public. Small data files may also be stored on Github (but for large files and data publication, we use HydroShare, see below).

Wiki

We use the Wiki to generate new webpages to document our project, e.g. Project Journal, Data Use Agreement, Descriptions of methods, and references.

HydroShare Resources

We use the HydroShare collaborative web platform to publish data products and model instances.
