Outdated Lexmark PPDs from 2018 with newer ones available from lexmark.com #28
Comments
(Sorry, I hit Submit new issue too early, and updated my post.) |
Hi @paulmenzel, I'm looking into this internally and will provide an update once I have more information regarding this issue. |
@Lexmark-bduffy Any updates on the existing Lexmark PPDs and PPDs for new printer models are very welcome, for both the foomatic-db package and also the PostScript Printer Application. |
Also @paulmenzel this is exactly the right place for your report, as we deliver our collection of PostScript PPD files under free licenses in the foomatic-db package, so all bug reports and feature requests concerning them go here. |
Also anyone who has improvements or fixes for the PPDs, independent of being from the printer manufacturer or not, please simply post a pull request/issue report here. Thanks. |
@Lexmark-bduffy, sorry for my impatience, but do you have any news? |
Hi @paulmenzel, I have notified internal teams about this issue again and will provide an update once I hear something. |
@Lexmark-bduffy, thank you for the update. As two more months have passed, do you have any news? |
@Lexmark-bduffy, any news? |
Hi @paulmenzel, apologies for the huge delay on this. I got this response back from the dev team: Updates are no longer made to these OpenPrinting PPD files as we moved away from Device-Specific PPDs to Universal Print Driver PPDs. The UPD PPD can be used for all current and upcoming printer models. The latest UPD driver can be downloaded from Lexmark's primary Driver downloads site, here: https://downloads.lexmark.com/downloads/drivers/Lexmark-UPD-PPD-Files.tar.Z |
Thank you for the update. Sorry for missing to reply. Could the last state be added to this repository nevertheless? |
Hi Paul,
Apologies for the late reply. We are working on getting a new PPD out there for you.
Thanks,
Brent

Subject: [OpenPrinting/foomatic-db] Outdated Lexmark PPDs from 2018 with newer ones available from lexmark.com (Issue #28)
[Hopefully, this is the correct forum to post this. Sorry, if not.]
Setting up a Lexmark CX920de on Debian sid/unstable, it took me a while to figure out to install openprinting-ppds. Before that, the search engines sent me to the Lexmark driver Web site<https://support.lexmark.com/de_de/drivers-downloads.html?q=Lexmark%20CX920de>, where the current DEB package is Lexmark-UPD-PPD-Files-1.0-05252022.amd64.deb from May 25th, 2022<https://downloads.lexmark.com/downloads/drivers/Lexmark-UPD-PPD-Files-1.0-05252022.amd64.deb>.
The PPD in foomatic-db was last changed in commit 5f7182f<5f7182f> in 2018. Unfortunately, there is no commit message, explaining the changes. There is, for example,
-*Throughput: "35"
+*Throughput: "25"
Comparing https://www.openprinting.org/download/PPD/Lexmark/Lexmark_CX920_Series.ppd from 9/21 with the PPD from lexmark.com<https://github.com/OpenPrinting/foomatic-db/files/9559410/Lexmark_UPD_Series.ppd.txt> there are some minor(?) differences. Throughput is set to 35 again, for example.
It would be great to have these updated PPDs in the OpenPrinting repository, so GNU/Linux users can easily get them using their distribution packages. Is the procedure documented somewhere? Can I just create a merge/pull request?
In the past, a Lexmark employee seems to have updated the PPD files. @Lexmark-bduffy<https://github.com/Lexmark-bduffy>, are you still active? Does somebody have contacts to Lexmark?
