- octave fully supports XDG for history file and site packages.
- octave partially supports XDG for rc file. An environment variable is needed.
* the .octaverc file will not be auto generated by octave, but all the manuals point to making it in the home directory * source: [Arch Wiki Xdg Base Directory](https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_Base_Directory#Partial)
* octave package mamanger by default will install packages in ~/.local/share/octave/api-v58/packages/
