The ability to create "share on Bluesky"-buttons on websites and blogs #1301
Comments
Is there an update for this feature request? I'd dearly love to add a BlueSky share button to a few websites I'm the admin of. |
@opengovnz You can try using |
Thanks @haileyok - I'll try that. Do you know if BlueSky has any PNG icon files I could add to the websites to put the link behind? The one on the web version of the app is an SVG which is less easy for me to work with. |
I think @emilyliu7321 knows where these are at. |
@opengovnz the icon is in FontAwesome now, should be able to use that I think? https://fontawesome.com/icons/bluesky?f=brands&s=solid |
Many thanks. |
I tried |
Dropping by to echo @wesleyboar -- This scheme does work, but does not seem to trigger the thumbnail automatically. It requires hitting space to get a thumbnail. Whereas if you if you create a new post and paste the link the thumbnail generates without having to press space. It would be great to have support in this scheme for the URL as well as title or other text description. |
Thanks @martymi! I tested. I found more than a single space was necessary; options that worked for me: (A) press space twice, (B) press space, then backspace, then space. Maybe it's a timing thing. I tested in Safari v17 and Brave (Chromium). For BlueSky, I could let website staff (whom I can instruct) share articles this way, but [I would rather not let] users. Do the following videos illustrate the status well enough to inspire investigation? test.post.via.URL.then.add.space.-.safari.movtest.post.via.URL.then.add.space.-.brave.mov |
@wesleyboar you are correct, it does take generally two keystrokes (type space + type character in my recent test). Thanks for the videos to clarify. I have implemented this now on a production site. I must admit having a "share on bluesky" button feels GREAT, even though the functionality is not entirely built out yet. It will help with growth and legitimacy of the platform. Here's hoping we can get BS devs to escalate this when it becomes practical to do so. |
In very recent testing it looks like after some recent updates the shared URL now begins generating a thumbnail without further user action like hitting the spacebar :) |
👍 Thanks @martymi. Confirmed, image is loaded without extra action. I don't know all the bluesky.share.loads.site.image.now.mov |
Agreed, and/or some sort of content text string support for the share function. ie: "Highlighted text, or Page Title, or something else." https://example.link.here |
It would be nice to be able to create a share-button by refering to a receiver-script on bsky.app. Which then opens opp a new BlueSky-post with content ( + og-data ) from the url with the share-button.
For usage on blogs, newspapers and other sites.
