Thanks for this @yada!

@lbroudoux, @JulienBreux, could you both approve or 👍 this PR to confirm participation.

Also, 7 proposals seems like it may be a lot. I appreciate that you have 2-3 mentors per project here, but if you get strong candidates applying for each, this could become a significant time commitment for mentorship this term. Usually i suggest spending 1-2 hours per week, so this could add up. If you feel you can manage, great, I just wanted to call attention to it.

Thanks, @nate-double-u, for the reply and feedback.
Folks will follow up regarding the mentoring confirmation asap.

I understand the feedback regarding the number of projects, and it was one of our questions: #1317

Make sense for the time and effort, but we may have more mentors later on based on the mentee's reactions ;)

Sorry I missed that!

The main limit is that a project maintainer needs to make (or approve) the proposals. They don't necessarily need to be a mentor, but they do need to approve any mentors and proposals to make sure that the work being proposed is appropriate (both in content and scope) for the project.

So there isn't a hard and fast limit on the number of proposals made, but mentees are expected to be working full time (between 32 and 40 hours a week) for 12 weeks, so it's important to make sure that mentors have enough capacity to direct this work (both to coach mentees, and review PRs - or help direct the community to review them). Usually I suggest that this is a minimum 1-2 hours per week per mentor, but many mentors find they are putting more hours in.

Also, we run this program 3 times a year (Term 2 Jun-Aug, Term 3 Sept-Nov), and there's also GSoC to consider (GSoC CNCF 2025) -- so we don't need to run all the project ideas in Term 1 🙂

No worries, we know what busy is ;)

We plan to submit new or LFX projects without mentees to Term 2 and 3 and/or GSoC 2025.
But we clearly appreciate your feedback, expertise and recommendations on this topic: shall we reduce our Term 1 number of projects?

That's up to you.

I try not to dictate, if you and your community feel you can support this many projects, who am I to say you can't. I just want to make sure that you know what you're signing up for 🙂

Thanks, @nate-double-u, for the feedback and insights! I understand the process is flexible and "doesn’t follow a formal ranking system yet" (your comment here #1317). So, let’s move forward with our seven projects and adjust based on mentee interest.

Sounds good @yada!

Approving, but will merge a bit later (having to batch moving things over to LFX). Could you sort the merge conflicts?

Did you mean to close this?

Sorry to cause more work.

I've been thinking more about it, and I'd like to ask if you'd be willing to do 3 (or maybe 4) projects this term. It's your first time in the program, and I think 7 is a lot (we have a lot of projects this term, maybe some of these would be a good fit for Google Summer of Code?)

@yada I'm @nate-double-u on the CNCF slack if you'd like to reach out there.

@nate-double-u Sorry, I messed up the merge conflict...
Let's commit and move forward on our 7 projects if it is all good for you now?
