yes freecad builds with occt 7.8.1, I guess the most important patch can be extracted from FreeCAD/FreeCAD@8abd093 but you might find other relevant things at https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/commits/main/src/3rdParty/salomesmesh

my attempt to update SMESH to occt7.8.1:
looooo/SMESH@44b5ae3

tried a new tool: https://pixi.sh/latest/ for reproduceable building
if you have pixi installed it should be possible to build smesh with:

git clone https://github.com/looooo/SMESH.git
cd SMESH
git checkout occt7.8.1
pixi r build

but I have't yet tested with something other than osx-arm.
