"not sure. Mainly the text is super light and the typeface is thin so it all sort of looks very faded and hard to read."

Sounds like an environmental problem with Lato?

Yeah, he's on Arch. I believe we're running into issues discussed here:

http://blog.webink.com/why-fonts-suck-windows-hinting/

FYI, I got webink confused with webtype.

I changed this ticket to be about the font. See also #62 on character coverage and #66 on changing the visual design overall.

You're getting a false italic, that's one thing I notice--it's clearest in the a in the first screenshots.

Second issue appears to be bad aliasing.

I develop on Mac and tested on Windows a bit ago, thought I had it. Didn't test on Arch nor Ubuntu.

I didn't really notice this until I saw a comment on HN, but your "screenshots bad" match how it looks under Ubuntu 12.04, Firefox 16.0a2. Try a different font?

Another +1 from HN: "Completely unreadable for me in RHEL 5.7 + FF 7.0.11, even at 300% magnification."

For what it's worth, I think the particular colour profile of my primary laptop makes it worse than the "bad" screenshots show. Unfortunately I'm unable to change the profile easily, but looking at the screenshots on a MacBook Pro, the text is not as bad as it is when I first saw the site, but it is still very thin. I'm not sure how it could be properly fixed without switching font or colour scheme, the font's inherent weight being what it is.

+1 from me on OS X. The text with class="help" is unreadable.

are you open to rearranging some of the content on the homepage / adjusting the layout?
