When running in the debug mode with compilation for CPU, SIGABRT is raised inside of the SimulationMap constructor. According to git bisect, the problem first appeared at d5411a5

@tanya-kta, you might want to know, that I can't reproduce the issue in the default_constructors branch (PR #40). I see a different error in similar cases, so I don't think the issue was fixed (though I'm not sure, so you might want to check this), but the new error might be easier to debug. Good luck!
