The following hint seems to be no longer up-to-date:
sudo apt install python3-venv python3-pip
It finished with an error that python3-venv could not be installed.
The following worked:
sudo apt install python3-pip

I am running:
Linux XXX 4.4.0-134-generic #160~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 17 11:07:07 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

According to https://askubuntu.com/questions/760177/python3-venv-not-installed-ubuntu-14-04, this is due to a bug in versions of Ubuntu prior to 15.04: https://askubuntu.com/questions/760177/python3-venv-not-installed-ubuntu-14-04

The docs could potentially gain a note referencing that, but I'm not sure it's worth it given that 14.04 is only 7 months away from its End of Life date.
