When adding for example sécuritéss to the dictionary, here is the following entries added:

"cSpell.words": [
    "curit",
    "s",
    "ss",
    "sécuritéss"
]

I have run into this as well. I also have found that words that match with accents stripped still "pass" the spell checking.
