Terrain Editing

The BDK provides both manual and procedural tools that make editing terrain dramatically easier than in the traditional UnrealEd.

The BDK differs from UnrealEd in that provides the ability to manage multiple layers within a single paint layer, and combine these layers like you would in other software like Photoshop. In addition to traditional paint layers, you can add procedural layers that reduce the workload of creating realistic terrain. Terrain layers can also by modified by Terrain Doodads, or used as masks for scatter layers.

This guide provides instructions on some of the basic functionality of terrain editing.

Creating a TerrainInfo

In any 3D Viewport, press Shift+A and select to BDK > TerrainInfo. Here you can choose the resolution and the dimensions of the terrain.

Sculpting Terrain

TerrainInfo objects in Blender are simply normal Mesh objects, and can be sculpted as you would any other mesh. The most common way to edit terrain is in Sculpt Mode.

Note, however, that by default, the vertices of the terrain are not constrained to only moving in the Z (up & down) direction.

With the new Terrain Info object selected, in any 3D Viewport, on the right-hand vertical tab list, click BDK. This will show the advanced terrain editing
