The filename convention used for our data is structured as follows:
platform_instrument_mb_substance_atmosphericmodel_microphysicalmodel_version.nc
-
Platform: Satellite platform.
-
Instrument: Satellite instrument.
-
Mb:
-
m
for monochromatic calculation. -
b
for band calculation weighted by the spectral response function.
-
-
Substance: Composition of the particulate. Options include:
- Liquid-water
- Water-ice
- Aerosol
- Biomass
- Volcanic-ash
- Sulphuric-acid
-
AtmosphericModel: Code denoting the atmospheric forward model.
-
00
: Cloud atmospheric forward model, no Rayleigh scattering. -
01
: Cloud atmospheric forward model, includes Rayleigh scattering. -
1X
: Aerosol atmospheric forward model. 'X' denotes the gaseous model:-

Note: The atmospheric forward model codes
aerosol
,cloud
, andmultilevel
do not constrain the choice of microphysical models. For example, you could run thecloud
atmospheric forward model using thebiomass
microphysical model. -
-
MicrophysicalModel: A three-digit code representing particle microphysics, backwards compatible with old LUT naming (e.g., a70 for aerosol dust model).
-
Version: LUT version.
The code to create these V2 Look-Up Tables (LUTs) is currently in development. We plan to add it to GitHub once it is sufficiently robust.
In the interim, for any requests, complaints, or advice on using the tables, please feel free to contact:
