I couldn't get a head of steam on any of the hard stuff for the Pivot and this has been building up for me, so I went for it. |
Longest username in the system is 31 chars long. Shortest is 0. N=112,775. |
It was Gittip/Gratipay 1.0 of which he was briefly a part, not 2.0. RIP, aaronsw. :`(
This leaves a few old templates in the dust that were using `heading`. They should be rewritten to not need that at all any more.
Hadn't kept up with ~

Sorry, @timothyfcook. I like wood, I guess. :-) |
: ) |
Okay! Ready for review. :-) |
Should we have a dev.gratipay.com with the WIP site version that is automatically pushed on commits from master? |
This design is so much better. Nice work! |
I like it! Except for the wood picture in the header. Too skeumorphic and non-matchy with the rest of the otherwise clean flat design. Majorly upsets the aesthetic for me. Also: you should feature the most interesting teams at the top of the list. Also: in the future it would be nice to get icons back on the homepage Also: can we not see total income of teams anymore? |
@techtonik I've added a +1 for you to #1133.
Thanks, @stevepiercy! 💃
The header image isn't skeumorphic, because skeumorphism is more than just having images: skeumorphism means pretending that the digital interface is a physical interface. For example, a "notes" app that uses a Sharpie-like font on a yellow background is skeumorphic because it's mimicking Post-it notes. The header image here isn't mimicking anything. It's just an image that's part of the design. I decided to include a header image in order to add visual interest to the site. I had originally thought to have a few different images: one for the homepage, one for the About pages, one for Teams, one for ~users, etc. In the interest of time, I only chose a single image. Also in the interest of time, I chose from existing pictures. I didn't try to take any new pictures. Here's why I chose the header image I did:
Your aesthetic is superficial and swayed by fads. :-)
Good ideas! Let's pick up with these over on #3704 ... |
!m @whit537 Very refreshing. |

@timothyfcook Also, the punched penny very nearly aligns with the leaf line, which is not vertical or otherwise related to the rest of the grid on the site (this new design has a 3-column grid, based on 192px columns). To me that symbolizes the way that Gratipay marches to the beat of a different drummer. We are aligned with something, but it's certainly not the mainstream. We are building a new inside. According to the penny (~= Gratipay ~= each of us), it's the rest of the page that is off kilter. What, Gratipay asks, is one's frame of reference? Also, that is a picture of the table that I am sitting at _RIGHT NOW. I bought this table at Capo's in New Brighton 15+ years ago, and refinished it with a friend. I bought it as a dining room table for my wife before we were married, while we were engaged. I'm looking at the knot _RIGHT NOW. |
P.S. The table from the picture is now on our third floor. Our main dining room table is from the Sibley Mansion. |
P.P.S. I'm excited for the retreat (gratipay/inside.gratipay.com#322). :-) !m @clone1018 !m * |
No longer necessary post-#3718.
We've got a long weekend to get the Pivot done, so we can announce the 1.0 refund (#3539). I think we need to "paint the walls" as part of this. We need a fresh look to indicate a fresh product and fresh energy—for ourselves if for no-one else.
